Sins of Omission, Commission, and Our Mission

Herewith follows the list of some Web page undesign principles you might want to avoid if you prefer not to have your site enshrined on these pages. They work for us!
  1. Bright backgrounds.
  2. ALL CAPS.
  3. Text over patterned backgrounds.
  4. Text and background color combinations that are hard to read.
  5. Too personal information, posted for all the world to take note.
  6. Long, scrolling menus.
  7. Unexplained functions, features, and commands.
  8. Gratuitous graphics.
  9. Huge, wide graphics that force your viewer to scroll back and forth to admire the panoramic view.
  10. Bunches of little graphics that require your viewer to set a specific size or the whole picture will fall apart (the IRS Home Page Primary Effect) .
  11. Sophomoronic humor on a page dealing with a serious topic (the IRS Home Page Secondary Effect) .
  12. Links to sites nobody cares about, or everybody has already.
  13. No feedback to the visitor on forms and mail submissions, so they will keep clicking and clicking and clicking.
  14. Huge graphics file downloads, without any warning about file size.
  15. Features that play well on Brand X browser, but not on Brand Y.
  16. Features used just because they are there as a menu choice for a fancy feature in your editor, even if they don't really communicate anything meaningful to your visitor.
  17. Inadequate identification of author and purpose of the pages.

On the other hand, your site is YOURS to do with as you wish, of course! So, never mind. We take it all back!
